Homestead Winery is the oldest continually operating
winery in the Red River Valley of North Texas. Barb and Gabe Parker
started Homestead desiring to continue the Parker family farming tradition
begun in North Texas by Gabe's grandfather more than 100 years ago.
When the vineyard was planted, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay grapes
replaced the traditional wheat and corn in the rich, fertile soils of
Ivanhoe. Today, grapes are brought in from various growers to create
a wide variety of wines. Wine making is under the experienced direction
of Dr. Roy Mitchell.
In addition to our Ivanhoe facility, our winery
in historic downtown Denison, bottles Sherry, Port and Red Wine. The
Denison tasting room offers visitors an opportunity to sample and purchase
our wines. Denison enjoys a rich history in wine making. In 1880, Denison's
T.V. Munson helped save France's vineyards by sending thousands of bundles
of North Texas grape rootstocks to the Charante Region of France. French
scientists and grape growers grafted their native grape varieties to
our disease-resistant rootstocks. To this day, Denison enjoys a special
Sister City relationship with Cognac, France.
While both the Ivanhoe and Denison facilities
are located about an hour North of Dallas, visitors to the Dallas and
Fort Worth area can also sample and purchase our wines at our tasting
room in Grapevine, Texas. It is situated in a 1890s Victorian home just
off historic Main Street.
